The Alternate Endings of Lost...

Last night, Jimmy Kimmel hosted a special edition of his show entitled, "Aloha to Lost."

For many days before the Lost finale, Jimmy advertised that his show would have, "three never before seen alternate endings to Lost." As I go through the grieving process of the ending to one of my beloved shows, these clips definitely brought a smile to my face.

Enjoy.

I Can Let Go... No Longer Lost

After two and a half hours of laughing, gasping, screaming, and crying, I am at peace. Although still feeling the affects of the emotional roller coaster, I am glad I took the time to become so invested in the show that I will remember for the rest of my life. Invested might be an understatement, perhaps I should try obsessed. Nah, I think I will go with "Lostie."

Tonight I would like to share with you a few photos of our viewing party as well as the finale of Lost interpreted by none-other then me. If you have not seen the episode please, Please, PLEASE do not continue. When you have watched it, then check out my blog. Gracias!

My Interpretation of "The End" of Lost

***Spoilers***

Jack said it best, “There are no do-overs, short cuts. Whatever happened, happened.”

People are afraid that Lost was a “cop out” that all those who were on Oceanic Flight 815 perished in the crash.

They did not.

Throughout the flash sideways (FS), the characters had flashes of their time on the island. Why is this important? Because their time on the island happened. It was real.

The flight did crash. People died. The smoke monster - that happened too. In the last frame of the series finale we saw the place wreckage, with the forts that had been made. People did survive. But you ask, “How?” “That doesn’t make sense. How on Earth did all of those things happen over the last six years then?” Well Lost and the island never made sense… There really was something about the electromagnetivity on the island and all of it was real. That is why Desmond did not disappear into the light when he was at the bottom of the cave. Although he had had flashes of the FS it didn’t mean it was “real life.” Desmond had always encountered flashes, and that is the very reason he did not stay on the plane during the FS for the entire flight. Jack had noticed it when Desmond disappeared. Desmond had flashed back. We will never know all of the scientific reasoning behind Jacob, the Man in Black .. and all of those mysterious forces on the island. The one thing that matters is that all of it was real.

Jin and Sun did die in the submarine. Kate, Claire, Miles, and Sawyer made it off of the island. Even Ben and Hugo made it off the island eventually. How? Hugo says that they can’t get off the island, but Ben counteracts, “that’s how Jacob ran things. Maybe there’s another way, a better way.” Jack does perish; we see his death at the end of the episode. Ultimately with him closing his eyes, Jack has come full circle from when he truly started living.

The FS was a purgatory of sorts but without the necessarily negative connotation – where ever the characters were before “moving on.” Everything on the island happened in real time. The FS was the “limbo” scenarios that the characters had created/influenced for themselves. Did you notice that when characters had seen their “island flashes” in other words remembering their real lives, things that had once ailed them no longer held them back: Sun’s gunshot wound, Locke’s spinal surgery. Sawyer said it best by saying to Sun, “What? You are leaving? You are doing pretty well for yourself especially with that gunshot wound.” Even Jack made a mention to Locke by saying, “You can’t leave, you just had spinal surgery.” In some of the FS, characters attempted to make amends for what they did in their time on Earth: Ben being a “fatherly figure” to Alex, and saving Locke after being hit by a car… Or Hurley being lucky when his time alive had been of such misfortune. Jack had a son and was trying to create a better relationship then his own father and him had had. Lock reinforced the fact that this was a “limbo scenario” by mentioning, “Jack you don’t have a son.”

Jack’s dad “Christian Sheppard” (clever titling, huh?) was much like a Sheppard of sorts at the church. He was not in the coffin in the FS because he didn’t need to be. The coffin .. with his body somewhere.. was on the island. Christian said that all of those that had been on the island created this particular “limbo” to find each other again, so they could move on. All of the characters died at different times. Christian Shepard said to Jack “some have died before you, some long after you.” Everyone was “stuck” in this pseudo world because they were ultimately waiting for each other. Christian described it as “this is the place that you all made together, so you could find one another. The most important part of your life was the time that you spent with these people. That is why you all are here. No one does it alone Jack.”

As the characters received their “island flashes” they realized that they were in fact dead, and all of them were to meet at the church to “move on.” But in this time, no one is in a hurry, and ultimately allowed all of those that they are interacting with to understand in their own time and to make their own decisions. We didn’t see everyone in the church because they had already “moved on” and/or not important to our favorite group of “Losties.”

I loved the ending of Lost, and felt that it did the series justice. I believe that it is safe to say this is my favorite finale of all time. From the action and suspense to the beauty, symbolism and poetic justice, it is what anyone could ask for out of a show. Unlike many endings of books, series, and movies in which I am left wanting more, I am at peace.

The End.

The End.

The appropriately titled ending of this Sunday’s series finale of ABC’s Lost. We knew it was coming, we were warned three years ago, but back then it seemed like forever. Back then we were traveling through time – unaware that John Locke’s body would end up being taken over by a nameless man that can turn into smoke and that all of our island friends were “candidates.” Now as we watch all those who have been significant to the show disappear in a cloud of smoke.. or bomb.. or gun shot… we are left scrambling, trying to make sense of it all. It isn’t very often that a show’s creative team will plan the ending of their successful show, but perhaps giving it an ending has made it even more successful. Here we are, the fans of the show, hanging on to every last word, and then skinning it – trying to find a purposeful meaning – something that will give us a key to become enlightened… to no longer be “Lost.”

After watching this last episode, I feel that we have been given enough information to more safely assume what will happen in the climatic series finale. What I am confident of, however, is that the show is famous for its “red herrings” and technically can end any way - with a “happily ever after” ending or one that would probably suit the merciless island.

So back in February I posted a Lost themed entry mentioning questions that I created with hopes to be answered during the 6th season. These questions were filled out by my friends and I, to be opened after the finale to see how we faired. Whelp even though my own answers are still sealed, I have decided to revisit the questionnaire to see how many more questions still need to be answered…

*** Season 6 Spoiler Alert ***

Out of the 16 questions, these are the ones that have yet to be answered… (Seventy five percent of the questions have already been solved, thank you Lost!)

Why when the island survivors that had made it to the U.S. joined the flight to go back to the island, Sun and Ben remained in present time with the remaining passengers?

• From the most recent episode I would say that perhaps Sun remained in present time due to the fact that she had her baby? Ben didn’t go back because he wasn’t on the original flight. I don’t think this question will be visited in the finale.

What does the statue on the beach represent?

• Although this has been a staple throughout the series, besides the fact that that it serves as a reminder that the island is old – I don’t know if it is important enough to mentioned in the finale.

Did the bomb at the end of Season 5 finale explode? What are the consequences of this event (Either exploding or not exploding?)

• I sure hope this question is answered, as there is a reason we have been living through flash sideways this entire season. Poor Juliette …

Finally, where do you believe Season 6 is headed?

Haha well of course this hasn’t been completely answered yet. Here is my take on the matter…

Edit** So I had an idea but then it started falling apart so I removed it. If I have a more organized idea I might post it… but I feel quite Lost upon further inspection.

Anyway… the series finale event is this Sunday at 6pm central time.. with the actual episode starting at 8pm.

Are you ready?

"When I was growing up, we didn’t have Facebook – we had phone book, but you wouldn’t waste an afternoon on it..."

Happy Web Video Wednesday!!

Today I wish to post a few videos from Saturday Night Live (SNL) this weekend. Justin and I are regular watchers of SNL, but we were super excited to watch this week’s host: Betty White. Caught in a whirlwind of fandom by young adults around the nation, this 88 year old was asked to be a host on SNL due to a Facebook petition that attracted thousands of members. Did I personally think it was going to happen when I heard about it in January? No… There are so many petitions about EVERYTHING on facebook.

But then again, It is Betty White.

What did Betty White think about this Facebook petition? During her monologue, she answered this question perfectly. “I really have to thank Facebook… I didn’t know what Facebook was, and now that I do know what it is, it sounds like a big waste of time.” “Needless to say when I was growing up, we didn’t have Facebook – we had phone book, but you wouldn’t waste an afternoon on it.” “But Facebook is a great way to connect with old friends, they tell me. Well at my age if I want to connect with old friends, I need a ouiji board.”

In more skits than many of SNL’s hosts, Betty was on point with all of the jokes/punch lines. Over exaggerating the stereotypes of octogenarians in many of her skits, she was hilarious and had a certain spark about her. Some websites felt that she was too vulgar – yet watch SNL on a regular basis, and that is the direction the show tends to navigate towards.

SNL gained its largest audience in over a year and a half, and it was all because of Betty White.

Below I have included some of my favorite sketches she was in as well as her monologue.

Enjoy!

A Flood Warning Without the Rain

To friends and family,

I have created a video that displays some of the destruction that has occurred today (5/3). I know you might be thinking, "It isn't raining there anymore. How could it be getting worse?" Well it can.

When water leaves one area, it has to go somewhere else. Our 8ft of water traveled to the Cumberland river... the river that the downtown area of Nashville resides.. as well as Opry Mills. These areas are becoming inundated with multiple feet of raw sewage, chemicals, and water. Also - the city of Nashville is also low on water and only one water treatment plant is up and running. This plant is only accessible by a train track as its parking lot is under water.

Nashville isn't the only city affected. The entire area of middle Tennessee is flooded. Some areas getting up to 20 inches of rain.

It is going to get worse before it gets better...

Please keep us in your prayers.

Love Jenny
